Beat the Heat in Houston: 3 Favorite Indoor Activities

Let’s be honest—Texas gets pretty hot during the summer months. While some people absolutely thrive when the red line in the thermometer starts heading upwards, some of us prefer to stay inside with air conditioning.

If you’re one of the former, remember to pack your sunscreen and drink plenty of water while outside enjoying the sunshine.

For the rest of us, however, summer doesn’t have to mean sitting in our living rooms with the thermostat set to “polar vortex.” There are plenty of fun indoor activities in Houston that don’t require spending a lot of time out in the heat. We’ve got a list of some of our favorites.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

Looking to expand your knowledge of the world around you? Whether you’re a naturalist at heart or you’re just looking to spend a few hours learning something new, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is sure to please! They offer a wide variety of exhibits, both permanent and temporary. These exhibits cover every field of science imaginable!

Ice at the Galleria

Who says that Texans can’t enjoy a classic wintertime activity in the middle of the summer? If you’re tired of sitting around inside, but don’t want to be burning in Texas sun, stop by Ice at the Galleria! Never skated before? Don’t worry! Lessons are offered, and you can skate for as long as you’d like during open skate times. Skate rentals are offered.

Space Center Houston

Remember the phrase “Houston, we have a problem”? Well, the crew of Apollo 13 were talking to the people at Mission Control at the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Johnson Space Center is responsible for all American manned space flights, and all American astronauts are trained here. Space Center Houston is a part of the Johnson Space Center. It is dedicated to educating the public about the history of American space exploration and the universe that we live in.

With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing this summer, there’s no better time to stop on by the Space Center for a visit!
