Want to spend a few hours having a good time at different establishments along Heights Boulevard? Here are three prospects for residents of Lincoln Medical Center:
Check out the Art Car Museum
First, check out the small but fascinating Art Car Museum at 140 Heights Boulevard. The privately owned Museum is free. It only takes about 30 minutes to walk through, but you’ll enjoy the unusual collection of odd vehicles.
Art cars are actually fine art free of typical art world conventions. Along with those few interesting cars, the facility exhibits car focused artwork by local, national, and international artists that reflect a fusion of fine art with folk art. To encourage participation, the Museum offers an annual open call for artwork centered around a selected topic.
Regular hours are from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesdays through Sundays. Call 713-861-5526 for more information.
Explore Heights Station Antiques
Second, down the street from the Art Car Museum at 121 Heights Boulevard, is the Heights Station Antiques store. The store operates in an 1895 carriage barn, a perfect setting for quality antiques. It’s huge, containing 5,000 square feet of space to browse through collectibles, jewelry, lamps, furniture (American and European), mirrors, glassware, and signed rock’n’roll and sports memorabilia.
The eclectic inventory is always changing. It’s like peering into attics without going through homes!
Heights Station Antiques is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Order BBQ at Hickory Hollow
Finally, once you’ve had fun with art cars and antiques, you’ll want to eat mouth-watering BBQ at Hickory Hollow. The restaurant is just down the road and it’s been serving Texas comfort food for 41 years.
It’s also reported as having the best chicken fried steak in Houston. However, it’s the delicious BBQ that keeps customers returning. Wood-plank tables and red and white checkered curtains smack of down-home BBQ flavors!
Hickory Hollow operates Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, 11:00 am to 9:30 pm on Fridays, and 11:00 am to 8:30 pm on Sundays. Call 713-869-6300, or review a menu here.
